To trade on a DEX, you "connect" your wallet — a quick handshake that lets the site read your public address and prepare transactions for you to sign. Crucially, connecting does not give the site access to your funds. It only shares your public address, the same way giving someone your email doesn't give them your password.
The two ways to connect
There are two common methods, depending on whether your wallet lives in your browser or on your phone:
- Browser extension — wallets like MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, or Phantom installed in your desktop browser. Clicking them opens a popup to approve.
- WalletConnect (QR code) — for mobile wallets. The site shows a QR code, you scan it with your phone's wallet app, and they pair. This works with hundreds of wallets.
Step by step
- Open the DEX and click "Connect Wallet." On kryllex.com, the button is in the top-right corner.
- Pick your wallet. If you have a browser extension installed (MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Phantom), click it and a popup appears. If your wallet is on your phone, choose WalletConnect and a QR code appears.
- Approve the connection. In your extension, click Connect. For WalletConnect, open your mobile wallet, tap its scan icon, scan the QR code, and approve on your phone.
- You're connected. Your address now shows in the top-right. You can swap, and each trade will ask you to sign — nothing happens without your approval.
Which wallet should I use?
- MetaMask — the most popular choice for Ethereum and EVM chains (Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, and more).
- Coinbase Wallet — beginner-friendly and works across EVM chains.
- Phantom — the go-to for Solana (and also supports Ethereum).
- Any mobile wallet — use WalletConnect's QR code to pair almost any wallet app.
A real DEX will never ask for your seed phrase or private key to connect. If any site asks for that, close it immediately — it's a scam.
Staying safe
Bookmark the real site and use the bookmark, watch out for lookalike URLs, and review every transaction your wallet shows before signing. When you're done for the day, you can disconnect from the wallet menu for peace of mind. Because a DEX is non-custodial, your coins stay in your wallet the whole time.
Connect and make your first swap
